Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

Always have been into sports since birth I think. CrossFit, sports, fitness and nutrition teaches me so much about the mind, body and soul and is literally an adventure for me.

Why did you become a trainer?

Working out and being with people who want to learn this stuff is why I do this.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

Muscle ups or pistols because of how much proprioception actually goes into each movement .

What is your favorite cheat food?

Yes.

What’s your favorite Superhero and why?

100% Batman. Loved the movies growing up and still do.

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

I kind of fell in to CrossFit by accident dropping a good friend and coworker off to the box. I had heard about it before and was looking for the next level in exercising. Immediately got hooked.

Why did you become a trainer?

After being coached for awhile and doubting myself countless times in the early stages of my journey my coaches never gave up on me and that just lit a torch in my beliefs in myself and my capabilities. I’ve been trying share that same torch to others ever since.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

snatch and muscle ups.

What is your favorite cheat food?

pizza and gelatos pistachio talenti.

What’s your favorite Superhero and why?

My favorite Superhero is as far as Marvel Deadpool but my favorite superhero most people haven’t heard about is Guts from a series called Berserk.

Additional Info

I’ve been competing in Olympic Lifting nationally now about a year and a half.
Some of my achievements so far:
  • Qualify for the American Open and National Championships within my second weightlifting meet
  • Earned a bronze medal in snatch in my first national meet
  • Making it to the national platform 4 times now
Favorite lift/best lift:
  • My favorite lift is snatch best so far is 211lbs and best comp is 193lbs
  • Best lift I would say is my clean and jerk it’s just more consistent
  • Best so far 250lbs and best comp 245lbs

What year did you start CrossFitting?

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

I grew up as an athlete but during my high school days had 2 major knee reconstructive surgeries. During recovery I was told I would never be able to run/squat ever again. After such a blow I fell into a depression for a few years until finally I had enough. Gave CrossFit a try and instantly became hooked. I ended up changing my entire career goals and dove head first into the fitness world.

Why did you become a trainer?

I started off personal training in “globo” gyms but it just didn’t feel right. I was doing CrossFit to stay fit so why would I not combine the two worlds and follow my passion.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

Snatch

What is your favorite cheat food?

This is tough. If I have to pick probably Pizza and ice cream.

What’s your favorite Superhero and why?

Hands down, Cat Woman. I know she is technically more of an anti-heroine but she is a hero in her own unique way which I respect and admire.

I fell into a rut despite being physically active my whole life. I needed a jumpstart.

Why did you become a trainer?

CrossFit positively changed my life and I wanted my community to have the same experience.

Snatches/Overhead Squats, Pull Ups

What is your favorite cheat food?

Pizza & Beer, but those are staples of my diet.

What’s your favorite Superhero and why?

Batman. He’s a dark and compelling billionaire playboy who secretly fights crime. What else would I want to be??

WHAT YEAR DID YOU START CROSSFITTING?

2010

WHY DID YOU GET INTO FITNESS (AND CROSSFIT)?

I was always a super active kid – playing outside, riding my bike and climbing trees. My parents got me into dance and gymnastics around preschool. Then, I started played sports in elementary school. Since then, I’ve always been on the search for a new trail to hike, 1/2 marathon to run, or a yoga class to crash. But, I was actually super intimidated by CrossFit upon first introduction. I thought it looked REALLY hard! But after that first class, I realized that although I had to modify a thing or two, I had survived! And, I haven’t looked back since! I love a good challenge. That’s why seven years later, I’m still doing CrossFit. To me, the best part is that no matter how long you’ve been doing CrossFit (days, months or years) you’re guaranteed to be out of breath at the end of the WOD, and sore the next day.

WHY DID YOU BECOME A TRAINER?

I absolutely love the “family” a CrossFit gym invites. It is like being back on a team when I was playing sports. Being a trainer provides the perfect opportunity to be an active part of that CrossFit family. Also, I love working with people who want to push themselves. I love to see the look on someone’s face when they conquer their first pull-up, or clear their first set of 10 double-unders. Being a part of that moment is invaluable.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE CROSSFIT MOVEMENT?

Double-unders and Power Cleans, in that order.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CHEAT FOOD?

Pumpkin Spice *anything*

(Did you know they make Pumpkin Spice Kale Chips?! Not that kale chips would really be a cheat food… but you get my point.)

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE SUPERHERO AND WHY?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and if I had to pick one of them – Michelangelo.

I grew up watching the cartoons, and was SO EXCITED when the original movie came out. I love Michelangelo’s personality. He knows how to have a good time, but still gets the crime-fighting job done.

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

I started doing CrossFit the summer before 9th grade to help keep me in shape for wrestling season. I quickly fell in love with CrossFit and how it improved my health and made me feel. Soon, I preferred CrossFit over wrestling and decided to pursue it.

Why did you become a trainer?

I love seeing people work hard to better themselves. As a trainer, sometimes, I get the unique opportunity to see a person change their life and become a different person. Also it is great to meet people and gain other’s knowledge.

Pizza

What’s your favorite Superhero and why?

The Green Lantern, because he gets his power from hope and courage and as long as he has no fear he is invincible.

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

Having been an athlete in some form, from the time I started school all the way through playing college lacrosse and rugby, I wanted to ensure I was in the best shape possible going into the Marine Corps Marathon in 2007. I needed a new routine that would ensure that I would be healthy come race day, as well as the days/weeks leading up to it. I happened to stumble across the world of CrossFit in January of that year, and I haven’t looked back since. CrossFit allows me the freedom to not only physically challenge myself in ways I’ve never thought before, but mentally as well. I may be older now than when I started, but I’ve never been in better shape, nor more mentally tough.

Why did you become a trainer?

As ridiculous as it may sound, I was born to educate. Being a high school teacher by trade, it was only natural to take those skills into the gym atmosphere, and help guide people there. We all started at square one, with a PVC pipe and bands on the bar, so to be able to relate to that feeling and to break the moves and transitions down for members so that they begin to see success, is an amazing feeling.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

Power Clean…followed closely by double-unders.

What is your favorite cheat food?

The person who first created the combination of chocolate and peanut butter, deserves a pat on the back from me…along with a 50 burpee penalty b/c it always sets me back in my macros!

What’s your favorite Superhero and why?

Wonder Woman. Not only is she tall, due to her Amazonian heritage, but she’s beautiful, strong and kicks ass all at the same time.

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

I got my start in CrossFit back in May 2008 at Outlaw CrossFit (formerly known as CrossFit Alexandria). It started as an internship that was a requirement to fulfill my Exercise Science degree at Virginia Commonwealth University. I then went on to become a full time personal trainer in Washington Sports Clubs, and continued teaching CrossFit classes- this included heading some classes at Andrews Air Force Base for a couple years, 6-1/2years at Outlaw, and finally ending up at the awesome CrossFit Woodbridge. I love to see clients accomplish goals that they would not have otherwise reached on their own for whatever reason.

Why did you become a trainer?

I have always had an interest in health and helping people…This lead me to pursuing my exercise science degree, which then easily led me into the world of fitness.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

Deadlift, Back Squat, and Power Cleans

What is your favorite cheat food?

Biscuits and Gravy, Pizza, Mexican food and margaritas….

What’s your favorite Superhero and why?

She-Hulk…because she’s indestructible and strong as hell- how is that not awesome.

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

I love everything fitness. I fell in love with fitness and sports at a very young age. I love the challenge and the fun that came with playing nearly every growing up. After seeking a change in my normal routine, I would stumble onto CrossFit. I fell in love with CrossFit from the very first WOD, the very first day. CrossFit changed my life. I was able to develop mentally and physically stronger in ways I have never experienced with any other program.

Why did you become a trainer?

I became a CrossFit trainer to share my passion and enthusiasm for fitness with others and to help others reach their fitness goals. I also enjoy working with kids and sharing my passion for health and fitness. I get to challenge and empower them and hope to inspire them to become amazing strong people that will have the ability to share and inspire others someday.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

My favorite movements are Double Unders, Clean and Jerks, and Snatches.

What is your favorite cheat food?

Wolverine. Although he is small in size and usually underestimated, he is animalistic and will not backdown when he is being challenged. He is also extremely loyal to his friends and his love ones and will sacrifice everything to protect them.

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

My sons started doing CrossFit and asked me to join them. They wanted me to have a structured environment to work on strength movements and help me with my form,

Why did you become a trainer?

I love working with children and getting them involved in exercise and strength movements helps with their confidence, body image and overall health.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

Strict press because it makes me stronger overhead. I do not have a lot of upper body strength.

What is your favorite cheat food?

Ice cream and pizza

Captain America because he helps fight for truth, justice and America

As a Police Officer I must keep my fitness at the highest level to insure that I’m ready for anything and so that me and my brothers go home at the end of our shift.

What’s your favorite Superhero and why?

Iron Man because he’s not your ordinary superhero. Prior to gaining his superhero status he worked hard to become the person he is. And this successful, arrogant billionaire doesn’t change when he becomes a superhero.
