Why the Schedule Change/ Updates to the Olympic Weightlifting Class times

Saturday June 17th

I wanted to take a moment to clarify why there will be a change to the schedule come July 1st.  If you have not heard by now, at the start of next month I will be switching our evening schedule from 330, 430, 530, 630, 730 to 4, 5, 6, 7 (M-TH) and 4,5,6 (Friday). Furthermore, our Bootcamp schedule will also be undergoing some changes as it will now be Monday and Wednesday from 6-7 and Friday from 5-6.  I want everyone to know that this decision was not made on a whim. I have spent the last several months analyzing and brainstorming different methods on how to best adapt to a few changes that have taken place in the gym. I will try to outline them as best I can below:

  1. Noise Complaints: For those that do not know, I have been dealing with an over-the-top amount of noise complaints for the last several months from our neighbors.  These noise complaints have gotten so severe that we were put into a position of wondering if  I was going to get the boot and have to change locations all together. Luckily, it has not come to this *keeping fingers crossed* but I want to do all that I can to ensure I can keep CrossFit Woodbridge at peace with our neighbors/ landlord and not get put on the street to fend for ourselves. After many attempts to fix the issue, I still have yet to come up with a solution that pleases our neighbors as they are continuing to complain. So, with that said our neighbors close their doors at 4pm therefore, I feel it will be safest for us not to start our evening activities until they have gone home for the day.
  2. Class sizes: In addition to the noise complaints, I have also noticed over the last several months a very distinguished trend in class sizes. As we all know, the 530 class is our largest class size. This was a hard decision to make since the community in the 530 class is so strong and I truly did not want to have a part in disrupting anyone’s routine. Unfortunately, what I found is that we do not necessarily have the equipment, space, or ability to handle a class size of 20. There are safety concerns at play. We have run out of equipment, we have had complaints about the size and ability to coach that many people.  Furthermore, the surrounding classes (430, 630, 730) have also gotten a lot quieter in terms of attendance.  If you have ever been a new CrossFitter in a class you know that working out in a large class is incredibly intimidating as well as frustrating knowing you may not have any coaching eyes on you at all.  The same goes for smaller classes as well.  Maybe you haven’t been in a class of one or two but, it isn’t that intense which has an affect.  CrossFit is all about community, and we want our community to be the best. The 30 minute time change, hopefully, will ultimately help create more of a balance throughout all of the evening classes.

I understand that everyone is just trying to get through their day and an interruption in that is annoying.  I’m the same way.  I’m make change to better the gym not to piss anyone off or create tension.  This is my lifeblood, my career, my life and to do that would just be stupid.  I know that change is inconvenient but, it is a small change that will make things better over time.  I’ve made a lot of changes to this gym in the past, schedule included and we all made it out alive.  I appreciate your passion and as always I appreciate your attending my gym and being a part of our community we have built over almost 8 years.

Lastly, the Olympic Weightlifting class will be effected by these time changes. During the month of June, we will keep the original times set in place (530-630 pm). The Olympic weightlifting course will be from 530-630 pm Monday and Wednesday for the classes on  June 19th, June 21st, June 26th, and June 28th. Then, come July, we will be forced to change the times from 530-630 pm to  7-8pm. All of the remaining classes in July will be at the new time.
