One easily overlooked way to improve your performance is to increase your flexibility. Inflexible people have a much harder time moving themselves and take much longer getting their bodies into position to move objects. Constantly contracting muscles, especially under a load, keeps them tight. Without fixing this, muscles (and the joints they’re attached to), lose their range of motion leading to poor performance and increased risk for injury.
Here’s the News Flash of the Day: Stretching improves flexibility. Simple as that. But, it takes a lot of discipline to stretch consistently, maybe as much as it takes to build strength or endurance. The best time to stretch is AFTER the workout when the elasticity of your muscles has increased due to increased body temperature and blood flow. You’ve probably noticed that your start to move better once you’re well into the workout. That is the pivotal moment where you can increase your flexibility through stretching.
