A Paleo Perspective


I know that as a gym we support the paleo diet, eating like a cave man/women, and encourage all new members with appropriate goals to give it a try.  But if you have goals that include high performance and large strength gains than perhaps you need to supplement your “clean eating” with other foods or supplements.  The article below has some good insight on the paleo diet, who it is good for and who should look to add more to it.  Comment and let us know your experience with paleo and perhaps what you add to your nutrition plan to eat for performance.

    I’ve been saying the same things this article says for some time now. (For myself only. Can’t speak for others). This is one of my favorite lines: “If you’ve placed beans and oatmeal into the same category as candy bars, well, you need to relax and take a breath.” This is an oversimplification, but I’ve found what works best for me nutrition-wise, and it’s along the lines of this article.

    Ok long story short, I agree with this article 100%. I think doing a 30-day paleo challenge is a great way to start eating clean if you’ve never eaten clean before. But if your goal is lots o’ muscle, as my goal is, then dont eliminate what is needed.

    Yummm whole grains!

    I think grains/beans can be fine as long as they’re prepared right for digestion. Problem is, most people do not do that… which can lead to digestive issues, which can lead to other problems like inflammation, leaky gut, inability to assimilate minerals and other nutrients, lowered immunity, etc. I think it’s worth learning how to prepare foods so our bodies can get the most out of them and not be damaged. Oh, and I LOVE potatoes of all kinds and refuse to eliminate them entirely. lol
