Spot me bro

Today we had some very interesting spot techniques but, when it comes down to it there isn’t really any rules.  Notice in this picture Jason is over Arri while he reps out like 700 pounds?  Well, that is correct.  Jason won’t be able to pull that bar off of Arri’s chest if he fails but he can take some weight off and help him back to the rack.  A good spotter will know when the lifter isn’t going to make the lift and when he’s not.  If that bar stalls and he isn’t going to make the lift the bar should be taken and put back in the rack.  If the lifter is making forward progress then by all means, keep making forward progress.  When everything has failed and you have a bar resting on your chest then you should shift the weight one way and dump the weight off of the bar (hence no collars while benching).  Bottom line is to get the bar safely back to the rack or off of the lifter.  Good luck!!
