I put compression gear in two categories: Soft Tissue & Joint Support
Soft tissue compression come in a variety of forms including shorts, shirts, arm sleeves, pants, shin sleeves, and even full body suits. The idea behind this gear is to compress your muscles while you endure physical activity to keep them warm and stable while encouraging recovery. While the effectiveness is debatable, I personally find the comfort of this gear undeniable. Even if it’s just for chafe protection, I can only workout if I’m wearing compression shorts.
Joint supporting compression gear includes wrist wraps, knee and elbow sleeves, and knee wraps, among others. The idea here is to reinforce your joint’s neutral position and protect these delicate joints while under a load. These are a definite must while weight training.
The theme with “gear week” is research and experiment so try it out to see what works for you.
