Compressed

DSC_0975Continuing with “gear week”, let’s take a look at Compression Gear.

I put compression gear in two categories: Soft Tissue & Joint Support

Soft tissue compression come in a variety of forms including shorts, shirts, arm sleeves, pants, shin sleeves, and even full body suits. The idea behind this gear is to compress your muscles while you endure physical activity to keep them warm and stable while encouraging recovery. While the effectiveness is debatable, I personally find the comfort of this gear undeniable. Even if it’s just for chafe protection, I can only workout if I’m wearing compression shorts.

There is mid-range compression gear made by major manufacturers like Nike, Reebok, and Under Armour. There is also high end compression gear from companies like Skins and 2XU.

Joint supporting compression gear includes wrist wrapsknee and elbow sleeves, and knee wraps, among others. The idea here is to reinforce your joint’s neutral position and protect these delicate joints while under a load. These are a definite must while weight training.

The theme with “gear week” is research and experiment so try it out to see what works for you.

This is also a decent company. I have some of their stuff and it gets good reviews on the crossfit pages. I would call it mid-range, between skins and the lower quality stuff.

I had to do this one at home before work. I only have a 45# bar so that’s what I used. Definitely going to feel it later… my legs were toast for the burpees!
